United States – West

My backyard in Redwood City

West Coast, Best Coast. (I may be a little bit biased because I’m from there but whatever). Anyways, the West Coast of the United States is absolutely fantastic and an amazing place to visit. San Francisco is a quirky and picturesque city. Los Angeles is glitzy and the home of Hollywood. The Rockies have incredible skiing, hiking, and mountain biking. Overall, the west coast of the US has some incredible sights and I highly recommend you visit.

The San Francisco Bay Area

San Francisco is an amazing city with fantastic food and so much to do, from walking along the Golden Gate Bridge to riding cable cars along Hyde Street to exploring the murals of the Mission. Outside of the city, you can go to Muir Woods, a short drive away, to get your nature fix or head to Half Moon Bay for some amazing seafood which you can eat while watch the sunset over the beach. Tech is king in this region too, as Google, Apple, Yahoo, and many other companies have their headquarters in the Bay Area and some have turned their campuses into tourist attractions in it of themselves.

Los Angeles

Los Angeles is a lot. As you probably know, the entire movie industry of the US is centered around Hollywood and its famous sign. If you can avoid the traffic of the many freeways in Southern California, you won’t get bored in LA. Downtown LA has LA Live, a hopping outdoor center with restaurants and the Staples Center, the home of the Kings, Lakers, and Clippers. Outside of downtown, be sure to go to one of the many beaches (Manhattan, Redondo, Hermosa, to name a few) and, of course, Disneyland, just south of LA in Anaheim.

The Rockies

The Rockies are absolutely stunning. Spanning in the US from Glacier National Park in Montana to the deserts of New Mexico, there is a surplus of things to do in the Rocky Mountains. In the winter, Eagle/Vail, Colorado, has some of the best skiing in the world. In the summer, mountain biking abounds in Boulder and outside Denver. Also, hiking and roadtripping through Montana and Colorado is an experience like no other.

The American Southwest

The five national parks of Southern Utah (Zion, Arches, Canyonlands, Bryce Canyon, and Capitol Reef), plus Monument Valley and the Grand Canyon in Arizona make up some of the most picturesque landscapes in the entire world. There is nothing like driving and walking through the middle of nowhere in the American Southwest and taking in the red stone canyons and arches formed millions of years ago. You really have to see it to get the full grandeur of it.
