Whenever something is considered to be the best or finest or grandest, I always approach it with skepticism. However, when it comes to the Milford Track, it lives up to the hype as the “finest walk in the world.”
Essentially, they purposely pissed off the snake with a stick so it would want to bite down and release venom from its fangs. But, while that was happening, another guy would grab the snake by its head and the snake would bite into a beaker, and the venom would drip into the container.
Just over 8,446 miles traveled. About 17 hours in length. One (1) seat in economy class for the entire trip. That’s what I was facing on December 21, 2018 when I arrived at 7am at San Francisco International Airport for my flight across the Pacific Ocean to Singapore.

I consider myself a fairly seasoned traveler, having been to six continents and journeyed extensively on my own. However, there are certain experiences that rattle me to the core and make me realize just how vulnerable and prepared for anything you have to be while traveling.
Ok, so this is a bit of a weird story. I didn’t plan on being involved in either protest, but, as with most things in travel (and in life), all the interesting stories don’t come from planned events.
However, the rarest creature I saw in the Galapagos wasn’t a native, in fact it was actor Harrison Ford and his wife Calista Flockhart.
And there they were, about 35 African Wild Dogs, surrounding us on all sides. Obviously, we were scared sh*tless and I can’t speak for my family, but I was paralyzed with fear. All the while, our guide offered us NO help whatsoever and kept on taking photos.
