United Kingdom

A River in Scotland

Technically, the UK is four countries, England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, but for simplicity’s sake, I’ll combine it all into one. From the cosmopolitan city of London to the rural farms and hills of Scotland, the United Kingdom has a lot to offer.

England

London

London is a cosmopolitan and vibrant city with so much to do and so many distinct regions. From SoHo to Hyde Park, London has so much to see and do that, even after I’ve been there several times, I’m still not bored by the city. Some must see sights include the British Museum, the London Eye, and the Tower of London.

Dover

Dover has these incredible white cliffs made of chalk and flint that face the English Channel. Most cruises that leave from the UK to the Baltic Sea or up to Iceland leave from Dover. There is a castle in town, but overall, there’s not much to do in the town itself besides sitting back, relaxing, and enjoying the white cliffs from both the land and the sea.

Scotland

Edinburgh

Edinburgh is a gorgeous city centered around a castle on a hill above the city. It’s considerable greener and has more trees than other cities I’ve been to in the UK and it is worth spending a couple days here as a jumping-off point to see the rest of Scotland.

Isle of Skye and the Scottish Countryside

The Isle of Skye and frankly the rest of the Scottish countryside is absolutely stunning. Loch Ness, home of the famous monster, lives up to the hype with a great driving tour around the lake. The best part of rural Scotland is the Isle of Skye, an island with dramatic wildernesses and “faerie gardens” straight out of a fantasy novel.
